Why choose hemp foods? The oil from cold-pressed hemp seeds is nature's best source of essential fatty acids, with Omega-3 and -6 in the ideal 3:1 ratio that the human body needs. Hempseeds are also very high in protein, energy and fibre, and contain many trace elements. And of course, hemp is nature-friendly, needing no pesticides or fertilisers to grow.
The situation in New Zealand: hemp seeds are allowed in foods everywhere except New Zealand. We are allowed to provide hemp seed oil for food use. However, hemp seeds themselves are not yet permitted for human consumption. All hemp seed products are for animal feed or export only. In 2017 Food Safety Australia-New Zealand approved hemp seed foods for human consumption, and the regulations are expected to change by late 2018 or early 2019.
This page presents hemp-based products for both human consumption, and for animal feed uses.
