Natural health product, this "merrie, cheerful herb" was traditionally used for heart problems and PMT.
Marihuanilla, or Siberian Motherwort (Leonurus sibiricus) herb, is also traditionally used as a cannabis-substitute in Asia and South America. The name means "little marijuana".
It is a herbaceous plants species native from central western Asia, including China and Mongolia and Russia, that is now naturalized in many other parts of the world.
Dried Marihuanilla looks a bit like weed so it is a major ingredient in the "fake pot" sold in magazines and online. The effect seems to be stronger for women, hence the name "motherwort".
However it does have an effect. Alkaloids isolated from the plant include Leonurinine, Leonuridine, Stachydrine, Leuronurine, Prehispanolone, Cycloleonurinine, Leoheterin and Preleoheterin. Mixing with Lion's Tail is reported to increase the effects.
Warning: Marihuanilla may increase uterine bleeding, hence it was traditionally used for PMT and/or starting periods. However that means it should also not be used by pregnant women or women trying to get pregnant.
